andrew archer is a fantastic illustrator from new zealand.

another year, another offf. i returned once more to barcelona to see the conferences and count the number of people with iphones and ipads in the room. here are my personal highlights from the 3 days:

lucy mcrae was the first surprise of this year’s edition. she calls herself a body architect. she has an amazing vision and doesn’t mind pushing the limits of her field. i especially loved these ones but she has tons of other crazy experiments for you to check out.

jessica hische (creator of daily drop cap and inker linker) also did a great presentation about her various internet projects as well as showcasing her lettering and illustration work. she had great sense of humor too.

wrapping up the first day was aaron duffy of 1st ave machine. he’s done a fantastic job with google’s ‘parisian love’, the chrome speed tests and audi ‘unboxed’.

i love dust‘s presentation was not as entertaining as most but they do have gorgeous illustration and motion works in their portfolio. you can’t beat that.

next was recurrent presenter joshua davis, who i’m always fond of hearing speak. this year he also had a mural that he painted during the festival. he was not scheduled to speak so it was a great late addition to the festival.

probably my favorite bit from james victore‘s presentation was this interesting project he created, which he sums up better than i ever could: a workshop and salon limited to eight guests. 5 days working in the studio. 5 evenings of dinner and discussion with premier designers, artists and film makers.

yuko shimizu has balls. she worked for 11 years in japan for a pr company and one day, as a 30-something, decided to quit it all, move to nyc, roll in art school and she’s now a fantastic award-winning illustrator.

linda zacks‘ presentation was a bit slow but her work is completely the opposite: vibrant.

last, but not least, jonathan harris. i didn’t like his presentation all that much but the man has skills, i have to give him that. he’s the author of great web projects like the classic we feel fine and the whale hunt.
